As registered dietitians, we are passionate about eating well. But as moms, we see how our good food/bad
food culture can backfire and turn mealtime into a mess. This is a forum to learn how to feed your family
from a place of joy, not dread. We touch on what to feed kids, but believe every food fits, so our focus is
how to help your curious little ones develop a fabulous relationship with food.
Jennie McGuire, MS, RD
As a nutrition science translator, writer, media critic, and new mom, I believe the most important eating
advice I can give is to only take eating advice from sound sources. I earned my Master of Science
degree in Nutrition Communication from Tufts University in Boston, MA and my undergraduate degree
in Communication Studies from Southwestern University in Georgetown, TX. I am credentialed as a
Registered Dietitian (RD) and belong to the American Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics (AND) as well as
the Food and Culinary Professionals practice group of the AND.
These days I split my time between contributing to The Kitchen Table Chronicles, helping moms and families
include more scrumptious seafood in their meals for the National Fisheries Institute, and wrangling our mini
McGuire all over the Brazos Valley.
Topping the short list of things I love even more than sashimi, hot tortillas, and zinfandel are my husband,
Lloyd, and our son, Harris (born October 2012). My mom and wife mantra, to quote feeding expert Ellyn
Satter, is “it is a grand privilege to have a front-row seat on someone else’s life.”
Sarah Ladden, MS, RD
As a writer and registered dietitian, I aim to provide realistic, science-based solutions to help readers better
navigate the ever-changing landscape of nutrition and wellness. As a new mom, I aim to raise a healthy
and happy daughter who eats her vegetables, shuns the ‘children’s menu’ and delights in licking a batter-
covered spatula.
In addition to freelance writing, I work as a nutrition communications consultant, developing health
professional and consumer education programs and providing perspective on emerging research, regulatory
and public health initiatives. I have an undergraduate degree in Journalism from Boston University and an
advanced degree in Nutrition Communication from Tufts University Friedman School of Nutrition Science
and Policy.
I am a NPR junkie and a pop-culture fanatic and share Julia Child's vision of "everything in moderation...
including moderation." My three favorite housemates (husband Lucas, daughter M.E., and beagle Theo)
ensure that my days are full of belly laughs and that my bathroom door is never truly shut.
